AEGEAN STRIPE
My process began with a dye bath where I immersed a length of folded and bound fabric in coloured dye. I was adapting the ancient Japanese technique of Shibori to create my pattern.. After the first colour submersion, I rebound and re-imersed the bundle of cloth in a second vat and colour. I continued with this sequence, gradually building up the layers, until I had a multi-layered design I felt really reflected the patterns of the rippling sea I was trying to evoke.
NOMAD
This project started with a trip to Morocco. It was all about texture and colour. Back in the studio I created mood boards and used direct printing with found objects and collage to explore my ideas. Screen prints onto fabric made up my initial explorations of theme, pattern and composition and became artworks in their own right. Some of these images were then digitally transferred onto silk and cotton to create my silk scarves and beach wraps.
